Hike up to Cecilia Ravine

Cecilia Ravine is a hiking destination so beautiful and quiet, it’s hard to imagine that it’s only a few kilometers away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Armed with my new Adidas Glide Boost kicks (thank you Adidas!), I set off with @UnearthedSA on a overcast Sunday morning to explore the trail which leads up to Cecilia Ravine.

The hike takes about two hours to complete, three if you occasionally stop and smell the proteas, as was the case with us.

There are two ways to get to the ravine, but both start at the Cecilia Forest parking area. The route we opted to go on was along the Nursery trail, which led us for about half an hour before a left turn was made, and uphill into this.

Stairs, lots and lots of stairs. It was quite a challenge but we persevered until we got the first Ravine, which I believe is called the Nursery Ravine.

The worst part of the hike is over after here, and Cecilia Ravine is about twenty minutes away. It’s a surreal spot of Cape Town – dead quiet except for the trickle of the waterfall. Gnarled branches and massive overturned trees are remnants of past storms, which lie at the foot of the waterfall.
